DA Sneaker Lasting One Day Workshop

DA Sneaker Lasting One Day Workshop

Increase your mastery of shoe lasting in a one-day workshop at Drode Atelier!

This full day class is perfect for all levels and will include a complete walk through of the lasting process, led by Bryan Magedman, Creative Director of Drode Atelier (@zerowes on IG).

What you'll learn:

  • The last- types of lasts, how the pattern you have is important to the fit
  • Understanding types and process around the lasting board, types of nails, toe puff and heel counters
  • How to create water-formed toe puffs (we cover synthetic puffs, but use water-formed toe puffs for the class)
  • Understanding glues- types of glues based on materials on upper and type of cup sole (not all glues are the same)
  • How to line up and center for a clean lasting process resulting in a properly lasted shoe
  • Preparing the cup sole, marking the lasted upper and sanding to promote adhesion
  • Filling the void; leather infill vs corking the sole, preparing to attach the sole
  • Marking and gluing the sole; stitching the soles if necessary
  • Backing and stitching discussed briefly in the workshop as it relates to the importance of how the finished upper will look once lasted and how it will continue to look after the shoe is worn

What to bring with you:

  • A notebook to take notes- it is a good amount of information
  • At least 1 pair of pre-sewn uppers ready to be lasted. You may bring more than one. it is possible if time permits
  • Your last. If you don't have a last for the sewn upper, please let us know so we can see if we have the last needed, including style and size
  • Make sure to bring your soles and verify they are the correct size for the project. Mistakes happen!
  • If possible, bring the pattern used to make your shoe as this will allow me to review the construction of the shoe upper, and give you positive feedback.

This is a full day class, but we will break for lunch (lunch is not provided).
